A Year in Review

Oct

I can’t believe I am writing this post in honor of starting my blog one year (and one month) ago! It really is crazy how fast time flies. For years this blog was just an idea in my head and a year ago I told myself “I am going to do it, and I am going to give it my all for one year.”

Seriously, I knew if I was going to do something like this that it would take time, effort, money, and MAJOR commitment. So, I committed myself to one year. For one year I would give it my all and do my best and if at the end of all of it I hated blogging or it just didn’t turn out to be what I thought, I’d quit. But, here I am writing you today excited to continue my blogging efforts. I am nowhere near where I want to be and that is okay. Even after a year, I have so many things to learn and so much content I still want to create.

So, let’s take a look at everything that has happened in the past year and where I am headed…

Blogging

YES, I will continueΒ blogging! First and for most I will continue to focus on fashion, outfit ideas, seasonal trends, and sharing the best sales. But, I plan on expanding the topics I blog about to other interests that are apart of my life like beauty, health, and travel. Plus, I am going to add a section to my blog called “life lately” where I will share more personal stories and updates on my life. πŸ™‚

Vlogging

Five months ago I set out to create a YouTube Channel for But What Should I Wear and I had no idea just how much time and effort it would take. To this day I have only published about 4 videos! But, I have plans to change that. As I quickly learn basic editing and photography skills I plan on sharing a lot more video content in the future starting with highlights of all my travels and monthly life recaps. In the meantime, I am going to brush up on my “speaking directly to the camera” skills in hopes to publish try-on hauls, beauty tutorials, and more (one day!)

A Year in Review - But What Should I Wear

Photography and Editing

You may think differently about this one but, I feel as though my photography and editing style has been all over the place this past year. What started out as my boyfriend taking my photos quickly turned into hiring and collaborating with professional photographers. I have always said that working with professional photographers was the best thing that happened to my blog. But, now that I am paying rent in Los Angeles my budget can’t fit hiring professional photographers, plus I am starting to hone in on my own editing style and skills. So we are back to squareΒ one with my boyfriend behind the camera and I will be creating my own Lightroom presets that fit my style! (Wish us luck!)

Life in General

Life has been crazy. As many of you know I have moved to Los Angeles and started working remotely. This has been a crazy blessing to have, but also an adjustment. I am working on how to stay motivated and balance working Full-time and run a successful blog (plus have a social life and playing with my pup!)

I pulled back the reigns on my blog a little bit recently to really try and focus on where I want to take my brand and what type of content I value, plus having a more restricted budget has possed a lot of challenges. But the best work is created through overcoming challenges.

But overall I am thankful to be blessed with such an amazing life with a great family, friends, and community. Blogging has opened so many doors for me, I can’t help but be thankful (and mindblown)! Your support and encouragement still amazes me every day. πŸ™‚ Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who are following me along this journey, I can honestly say I love each and every one of you!

And there you have it, folks! It has been so amazing looking at how far I have come in just one year, it makes me ecstatic to think about all the possibilities for the future. Remeber “Perfect is better the done” and “Progress over perfection.” You won’t start learning until you start, read all the blogging advice posts you want, but trust me when I say you’ll only start learning after you have begun!

Also, a HUGE thank you to all of you who have followed me from day one and everyone else who has found me along the way. You guys mean the world to me, I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for all the love, support, and advice I have received from so many of you over the past year!

I would love to get to know you all more so leave a comment with your blog or Instagram link so we can connect! πŸ™‚

  2. You are so gorgeous! I am so inspired by your journey! Wow, look what you have accomplished in just one year! The sky is the LIMIT!

  3. Congrats!!! Such a huge accomplishment. I’ve also got that 1-year goal (of which I’m 2.5 mo shy). I can *totally* relate on the whole photog/rent issue. I think having your own presets is such a save though, will come in handy working with photogs, too, cuz you can keep it fairly consistent no matter who shoots you. I’m in LA, too! We should grab coffee sometime.

I just hopped over to your Instagram page and followed. I literally feel like I am you a year ago. I talked myself into postponing my blogging aspirations for … wait for it… 5 years. Yep.
I finally just jumped in head first, and while it is hard, I am so grateful for the concept of #progressnotperfection , like you mentioned.

Happy Blog-versary, and great job!!! All the best with the editing adventure!
