Well, it is the final week of my blogging series! After talking about everything from How to Star a Blog to Instagram to Time Management, I am wrapping up this week by talking about how to stay true to yourself as a blogger.
Depending on how long you have been blogging or working in the influencer market we have all experienced this in some capacity: torn between wanting to do what makes you money and grows you following or staying true to yourself and your style.
I have certainly found myself in this place a handful of time over the past year. It is never easy. I am very analytical. I am also a perfectionist. Which means I set goals in terms of following, reach, blog traffic, and money. Then when I find myself struggling to meet these goals (often because of factors out of my control) I proceed to beat myself up. This is a very unhealthy cycle.
To be very honest with you I found myself hating blogging and Instagram not too long ago because of how desperately I wanted to monetize myself and how I also felt like I wasn’t being true to myself. This is why I took a week long hiatus, to figure out what I thought was more important.
And for me, staying true to myself came out on top.
Blogging and influencer marketing is not always easy. Especially when you are working tirelessly over trying to grow your Instagram while negotiating with brands who under appreciate influencer marketing.
Here are some tips I found helpful on
How to stay true to yourself as a blogger and influencer
Don’t be afraid to show your personality.
Take a break every once and while. | We all need to take a step back every once and while. Sometimes I find the best inspirations when I take a little break from constantly working on my blog.
If you’re not passionate about it, don’t do it.
Choose to work with brands that genuinely fit your style. | A good rule of thumb is: if you wouldn’t buy the product or invest in the brand with your own hard earned money, then don’t work with them. Simple.
Show your personal life a little bit. | Sharing your personal life on your social media and blog reminds both you and your audience that you are human too.
Always remember why you started blogging.
Do it because you love it. | not because it will make you money
Don’t beat yourself up. | This is a hobby, your side hustle, a part of your life you’re sharing. You are your own boss. You create your own schedule and can bend your own rules. If you can’t get something done today or this week remind yourself it’s okay and try again tomorrow.
Hangout with your friends. | It is easy to feel like you are constantly working, especially if you have another job. Remeber to hang out with your friends and get a breath of fresh air from blogging.

Thanks for writing this piece. One thing I do is work with my feelings. If it doesn’t feel right, I don’t do it- simple.

Love that denim skirt and yellow shoe combo. Yellow is a super perfect color for the season. Great style, great words of advice too!

Great reminders thank you!
Very nicely put. I totally agree with you, especially with the part “If you’re not passionate about it, don’t do it.”
I heard a lot of people that started blogging/vlogging, just because they know it can get them an extra income.
Stay true to yourself!

I really needed this. I’ve had my ups and downs trying to grow and I’ve realized I’m now going in the right direction. I started blogging what I am passionate about and now I’m so much happier. And taking time for yourself…it’s very needed.
I agree; it’s so so important to remember why you started. This was a lovely read! <3
