I don’t know about you, but there is just something about new years resolutions that get me so excited. This time around all my feelings surrounding the new year and resolutions feel much different. After a year of so much restriction and heaviness, it’s hard to plan and brainstorm whats next. Honestly, sometimes I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But, needless to say, I have learned a lot about myself this year and one of those things is that I thrive when I have something to look forward to, which is why I’m sitting down to write out a few goals.

With no trips to look forward to, no family celebrations happening or happy hour with friends (at least in Los Angeles.) It was hard to grasp the feeling of a “fresh start” when there is still so much uncertainty.

This is why my main focus this year is being more preset. I want to be more thankful for the things I already have, instead of reaching for the things I don’t. I want to be more mindful. Less phone time and more real connections.

I’ve never been one for hard or strict new years resolutions, I simply focus on being “better” then the year before. I find putting a number on resolutions to be incredibly discouraging because it’s easy to find yourself falling behind throughout the year and eventually I’ll start to loose motivation all together. So I strip anything quantifiable from my resolutions. Like a specific number, amount of days, number of minutes, ect. Instead, I simply state that to be “more” of this or do “less” of that.

For example, instead of saying my resolution is to read one book a month, or 12 books a year — I say it’s to simply read more. Try it, it’s life changing.

Anyways, now that you understand my thought process, here is have I’m focusing on this year:

For Personal:

+ Make Mornings Better: this year, I want to spend more time enjoying my mornings by putting the phone down and taking the begining of the day a bit slower. I want to start each day appreciating the little things.

+ Sleep without my phone: yep, this year I’ve started putting my phone in another room so I’m not tempted to use it before bed or right when I wake. It’s been life changing so far and now I have this cute little alarm clock.

+ Get outside more: I blame my lack of outdoor activities in 2020 on COVID, but this year I want to remember to get outside each and everyday, even if it’s just for 20 minutes.

+ Find a work/life balance: 2020 showed me just how important it is to have a balance when it comes to work and life — which tends to be a bit challenging when you know, as an influencer, I am my work and my work is me. But this year, I’m promising myself to put the phone down, turn off my laptop at 5pm and get back to enjoying my weekends.

+ More focus on health and wellness: Now this is a big one. Despite my best efforts, 2020 was not the best year for my mental health and overall wellness. The older I get, the more I realize how much your mental health is impacted by your physical health and that sometime self-care isn’t just bubble baths and lighting candles. Sometimes putting your mental health first, is getting out of bed and doing the things you don’t want to. Like working out, eating healthy, making the bed, ect.

+ Stay true to myself: THIS IS IT. THIS IS MY 2021 MANTRA & MINDSET.

+ Read more: I don’t care if its 2 books or 20, any kind of reading will be better then what I accomplished in 2021 and I’ve already cracked open my first book, Man’s Searching for Meaning.

+ Drink more water: Honestly, my skin just looks better.

+ Move out of LA: Yep, you heard that right. The time has come for a new adventure and the goal is to be out of LA before the end of 2021!

For Business:

+ Be less of a perfectionist: More often then not my perfectionism tends to be counter productive, I let it hold me back instead of excel me forward. So, this year I’m dropping the perfectionism and just sharing what I love.

+ Re-do my website: Now that I’ve gotten back into blogging, I want to redo my website and create a more user friendly experience with a design that captures my personality and overall brand a bit more

+ Prioritize Video Content: 2021 is the year of video for me. While Instagram isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, I can’t wait to have lots of fun experimenting with Reels, creating TikToks and vlogging more of my days for my YouTube.

+ Get Organized: Contrary to popular belief, I’m not a very organized person — at least when it comes to filling away receipts and doing my taxes in a timely manner (aka this year I won’t wait until March to get all my expenses in order) — just being honest!

+ Expand: There are so many things in the works for 2021, I cannot wait to expand my brand and business. But, you have to stay tuned for this one.

+ More Mentoring: I briefly mentioned this on IG recently, but in 2020 I finally took on a passion project of mine and started mentoring. It has become one of my favorite parts of every week and I hope to expand to it a lot more throughout 2021 — Just think about it as being virtual BFFS with lots of FaceTime dates all while learning tip on how to influence and make that $$$

And there you have it, that just about sums up everything I’ll be focusing on in the new year! Honestly, this list a lot heftier then usual and I know I might not get to it all. But I’m leaving 2020 in the past and ready to kick 2021s A$$.

Xx Allison
